To propagate the varieties most used by sugarcane mills and producers, NEF has partnered with Explante Biotecnologia , a leading company in Brazil in the multiplication of varieties through meristems, i.e., tissue culture. In this partnership, Explante produces CEEDS™ for partner mills and producers according to the varieties required by the client.
Any plant wishing to plant CEEDS™ can contact Explante to discuss supply. The company, located in Mogi Mirim – SP, with a laboratory of over 2,000 m², has 130 employees, of which 70 are exclusively involved in the production of seeds for various crops, such as sugarcane.
According to NEF, this allows for long-term supply to sugarcane mills and producers and is also a center of excellence to serve mills that wish to license CEEDS™ for their own production. Yes, you read that right. The big “trick” is that NEF will allow, through licensing, mills or producers to make their own synthetic seed. “As part of our partnership with Explante, we are also offering support to mills that wish to produce their own CEEDS™ through technology licensing. In the same way that some mills have internalized MPB production, we recognize that the same will happen with synthetic seeds, and we want to encourage this”, explains Carver .
