Following the announcement of the partnership between New Energy Farms and Explante Biotecnologia, work is now underway for production of CEEDS™. After an extensive research process into the varieties available on the market that would be of benefit to our partners, we are excited to announce the start of CEEDS™ production in Brazil to supply our sugarcane mill partners for planting.

Explante Biotecnologia, a Brazilian company founded in 2001, is known for its quality in the production of micro propagated seedlings of plants with high genetic potential. Explante uses in vitro cultivation techniques to multiply plants on a commercial scale, free from disease and with high vigour, with the aim of increasing productivity. With investments in research and the development of new protocols, it has been working on projects to micro propagate these varieties on a large scale, using techniques that make it viable to commercialise the seedlings in vitro, at competitive costs for the market.

New Energy Farms (NEF), a British-Canadian company created in 2010, is a technology licensing company that develops scale-up and crop establishment systems. NEF was created with an initial focus on developing solutions for perennial grass plantations used for fuel and fibre production. NEF brings to Brazil more than 20 years of experience in the development and commercialisation of vegetative propagation systems for perennial grasses in the EU, North America, and South America, having spearheaded the establishment of vegetatively multiplied crops on a large scale.
This work focused NEF’s research activities on developing technology to establish perennial grasses as row crops. As most of the important perennial grasses are sterile (do not produce seeds), the challenge was to make the vegetative propagation process simpler and less costly. That solution is CEEDS™ technology, developed and patented by New Energy Farms; benefits that NEF and Explante Biotecnologia bring and offer to the Brazilian sugar-energy market.
